The Walls, Spartanburg
Fred Wall and his wife live in Haiti, though they have a house in Spartanburg. They've lived outside of Port-au-Prince for some 30 years.
They haven't heard about the condition of their home over there.
"I do not expect to find a lot of damage because we're used to the tremors every year," said Wall. "We'll have 3 or 4 tremors and we'll wind up with cracks in our buildings and we'll have to cut them open and fill them up with concrete, rebar and put them all back together."
Wall does church planning and pastoral training; his wife does medical clinics. They know many people in the hardest hit area.
"We have made contact with a couple of families in Port-au-Prince and know they're OK," Wall said. "There have been two students from our immediate area that we fear died in the rubble. They left the area and went to the university in Port-Au-Prince. It collapsed."
Wall plans to return to his home in Haiti a week from Thursday.
